exist†trace new album 「Virgin」interview

Interview by tokyohive and RESONANCE Media :
You just released your first major-label full album VIRGIN on May 23rd. Please describe the album.
Miko
I can’t express it with one word. It’s an album with so many types of songs — it’s like a toy box. It has pop-style, fun songs, and on the other hand it has heavy songs that express a woman’s most extreme feelings of love and hate. I think only exist†trace can have songs with this unique variety in one CD.
Which track is your favorite on the new album?
Jyou:
I like all of them… but I choose the second song “Daybreak -13gatsu no Shikisai-.” When the black-and-white world of “WONDERLAND” switches the colorful world of “Daybreak,” it makes me excited to see what kind of story is going to come out of this album.
Omi
“Futatsu no Koe.” Because I’m the one who wrote it. [laughing] I also like “WONDERLAND” and “Keiyaku” very much.
Miko
It’s hard to choose because I love them all, but I have a special feeling for “Keiyaku.” At the time I made the demo, the complete version of this song was already playing in my mind. This was the first song on VIRGIN for which I had such a clear vision.
Naoto
It’s “Anata.” I like the bass phrasing, and each of us put something really intersting and cool into the song. I want people to listen closely to small details.
Mally
It’s “Signal.” This song makes me want to shout when I listen to it! It has so much heat that I can feel the sweat and the feeling of an actual live show. This is the song I think that will grow the most, the more often we play it. I’m looking forward to it.
One of the tracks from VIRGIN, “I feel you,” was chosen as the theme song for Nadeshiko Japan’s official 2012 guidebook DVD. How did you feel about this announcement?
Miko
I love to watch soccer games, so I was very happy. The speedy feeling of this song links perfectly with the images of the running players. I think it’s very easy to listen to, even for the people who hear our music for the first time on the DVD.
What are your feelings about the US tour in March? What did you think about the American fans’ reaction to you during the live?
Jyou
The fans were so excited, so we were able to use all the power and skills we have to perform the live show! The fans understood my MC in Japanese, and that made me realize that they love us and they love Japan. It was so much fun, and thanks to all the fans, this tour was a really memorable, wonderful tour. Thank you!
Did you have any time off to explore the cities during the tour?
Mally
In New York, we had time to go sightseeing. We went shopping in Times Square, and went to Ground Zero. I think we all found a lot of memories from New York, especially. Also, to tell you the truth, there are certain places we always visit when we go overseas — McDonald’s and drugstores. At McDonald’s, they have items that are not in Japan, and the drink sizes are totally different! We have a lot of fun comparing things. “Look at this! Look at that!” [laughing]
How soon can fans expect you to return to the USA?
Jyou
We hope to visit America again soon, too. But we need your support for that. Please invite us, and then keep inviting us. Put all your power into seeing us again! When that wish comes true, we want to create a more wonderful live show next time, together with you!
What other countries are next for exist†trace?
Miko
Currently, we receive messages from people all over the world saying “Please come to our country and have a live show!” We want to answer all of those requests right now! We want to go any place where there is a heart calling out to us.
Please give a message to tokyohive readers.
Jyou
Thank you always for your support. Even though we’re far away in Japan and America, we feel you’re very close to us. We will deliver a lot of our feelings to you with our music, so please expect exist†trace in the future!
Omi
: Please listen to our full album that you can see the many colors of exist†trace. I look forward to the day we can meet at our live show.
Miko
You won’t find the same thing as our music and live show anywhere in the world. Don’t get trapped into thinking we’re only a novelty, just an all-female visual-kei rock band. We’re combining music and visual look into something original and unique. We really want our fans overseas to experience it!
Naoto
Wait for us. We’ll visit you again for sure. We’re listening every time you call out for exist†trace. I want many people who have never seen exist†trace’s live shows to see our shows.
Mally
This album evolved far past what we imagined, and we can be confident saying that the songs are cool. I hope to have live shows overseas with these songs! For people who struggle every day, and for people who live with great energy, I want to deliver power and passion through our music, visual style, and live shows! So, please wait for us with high expectation! Love and thanks!
